Post Xmas Sales

So I work at a large retail grocery chain and I noticed something today that some people may find interesting. I certainly do. A whole section of the store was dedicated to holiday goods(decorations, diningware, junk gifts, etc.) and was dwindling quickly on the Eve, selling at full price. Today, two days later, it's all fifty percent off. All of it. It's still the exact same merchandise. And will be next year. And five years down the road. What makes it suddenly almost worthless? Simply our perspective of time? What if I bought a shitload of it at fifty percent off and saved it until next year, then sold it outside in the parking lot for slightly less than they sell 2009's goods? I could make a killing.

Here comes the Sun

Boy am I glad the sun's finally out. My SAD was about to pull me under. It's not good to get all depressed and shit right before Xmas. I'm always a little anxious about seeing all those family members anyway. The withdrawal and introvertedness brought on by SAD makes it that much worse. BUT! the sun shines brightly this morning and it's going to be rather warm. So there's that...

Another something to tell me who I am?

And actually I'm having a hard time coming up with an argument against it.

Are you SERIOUS!?!?!

So thanks to the crowds on Long Island for showing us the real meaning of "Black Friday". What could have been on sale at such a discount that killing people became necessary? I'm glad that there's no shopping I need to do. I mean, I love buying stuff but I don't buy gifts for Christmas out of obligation, plus I'm poor(andachurchsed?). Sometime next week, though, I am planning on buying a laptop. That should help make the blogging easier. Yada, yada, yada. Keep dreaming...

Turmoil in Thailand

I was in Thailand last summer(2007) and our hosts were wonderful. A beautiful Chinese-Thai family that showed us all over the country and fed us way too much food. They did not, however, tell us about the internal strife with the government. We actually flew into this airport. I'm not sure if I should contact them and see if they're okay. The thing is I'm curious about where they stand on the whole issue. Are they pro- or anti-government? Would they get in trouble if they told me so? I like to get actual points-of-view from people that know what they're talking about. I'm sure NPR or CNN can give relatively good coverage but sometimes they miss the underlying issues.

Late add: Seems to be a pretty good breakdown, if it's accurate.
