Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

by Korney IL

This week's word is not the sexiest sounding but it's one of the sexiest ideas. It's the underlying cause of so much sexiness, albeit unconsciously. You know why we euphemize sex with the phrase "being intimate"? Because that's what sex is, intimate. But sex isn't the only intimate act between two or more humans. One of the most intimate acts is a conversation of confessions. Sitting together in a darkened room, glasses half-full of bitter concoctions, smoke drifting around lazily, perhaps music playing but not being heard, and one of you says something that you've never said aloud. The reactions from the others are key and they know it. They also know you trust them. You just made that connection for them by spilling the beans, letting the cat out of the bag, or DISBOSOMING.

That's right. If you reveal or confess something, you know, get it off your chest, you DISBOSOM.

Makes sense to me. Also, bosoms...

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

by Finch Linden

Chthonian is a word that we need more often at night in dark places when the chill bumps start to tingle and the cold breeze comes inexplicably through the warm, humid room.

adj. -- of or pertaining to the deities, spirits, and other beings dwelling under the earth.

Need a little help saying it aloud? I'm here for you, sweetpea.

We start with the lithe and lovely TH with the tongue stuck between the teeth tho thweetly. The O is long enough to let your mouth go around it nicely. We like Ns too and if you sandwich the IA diphthong between them, we're in heaven. Don't stress about this word, my darlings. Once you've got it, you'll be the belle of the ball. Even if that ballroom is a cave filled with bats and eyeless newts and the sounds of water dripping from stalactites. Don't get me started...

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

by Mark Velasquez

Few lullabies are so instantly recognizable and agreed upon as the gentle lapping, splish-splashing of water. To lie beside the sea and listen to the waves, some large, some smaller, come up to greet the shore with a sudden pop then slowly slide swishingly away is universally desirable.

And sometimes the water is crystal clear, allowing one to see individual grains of sand several feet below the surface but sometimes a deep blue engulfs all light and any small stones one may happen to toss in. The magic of the clarity or the mystery of the darkness holds us in awe.

Then there's the feeling of the salty water on your skin, the slight abrasion as the waves press the grains against you. And the taste of your skin after a refreshing dip, like sweat but fresher.

Thalassic

adj.-- of or relating to seas or oceans.

Not all voyages are across the globe and not all sirens sit on rocks to lure Odysseus but we can all be sailors in our own ways. We can sing while we scrub and we can glean pleasure from the warmth of the sun upon our faces.

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

by Shelbie Dimond

Good Morning, my Lovelies. That silent glow grows on the horizon as our warm friend rises to greet us. Golden arrows shoot towards us over the eastern mountain tops as the sun gains momentum.

Like a body whose beauty is paralyzing and blinding, the radiance emanates from every curve of its landscape and you struggle to take it all in at once. It's easy to parse it up and start at the top of the head sweeping slowly down to the toes, inhaling with your eyes.

Effulgent

The first syllable is like the first half of the word IF, just the ih part. Then the F does the heavy lifting for the stressed second syllable and you know how we do Fs, drag your bottom lip under your front top teeth into the ool, making certain to purse your lips well for the long U sound. And the l should bring your tongue to the roof of your mouth quickly but gently. The final syllable is like the sudden pleasant surprise exclaimed about a rather well-dressed and polite man:  GENT! Except ease the e sound slightly towards a u sound. Not all the way! Just a taste.

adj.-- shining forth brilliantly; radiant

She always was bright...as a matter of fact, she burned my retinas and melted my wings. But I crashed into the ocean with a blind grin on my singed countenance.

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

by Amanda Charchian

You know that vision in the back of your brain that seems wonderful but couldn't have been real, there's a dream that you remember so clearly you must have been awake. She held you tightly on top of a mountain and you can still remember the smell of her hair, some sort of faint perfume, soft and flowery with a little grapefruit but also the hint of sweat, heat coming off her freshly exercised body. But did it really happen...

Paramnesia

n.-- a distortion of memory in which fact and fantasy are confused.

Looking back, it's hard to separate them, the dream and the anticipation from what actually conspired. And then I wonder, does it really even matter? Does she remember the same mixture of desire and destiny? Perhaps none of it occurred. Nothing really matters now that it's over, right? Might as well have been a complete fabrication. She never showed up and you never talked to her. But the imagination has a way of making things lovely nonetheless.

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

by Corwin Prescott

Now that the temperatures are rising and the sun lingers in the sky, a movement can be felt from within a body. It's a shimmering vibration that takes hold of your outer limbs and urges movement. If the compulsion for locomotion is not satisfied there is a faint dizziness that can set in.

Vertiginous

The V is delicious as your bottom lip drags under your teeth and the ERT! comes explosively. Then through the short I to the soft G back to the short I in such rapid succession that one might be forgiven for neglecting the transition but we shouldn't ever neglect transitions, darlings. Then the NOUS-ness of a word, giving it properties that are encompassing arrives at the last moment but can drag on as long as you need it as you narrow your eyes and draw up your smile ever so slightly, not giving away too much but inviting a mystery.

adjective
1.
of, relating to, or having vertigo
2.
producing dizziness
3.    whirling

4.    changeable; unstable

Some might question the positive nature of the word but I say if you've never been dizzy then you've never been in love, stood at the edge of the world, or done anything worth doing at all, really.

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

If you can remember when the sun got more face-time than the stars, back when the dark did not mean the cold and you could drink during the daylight hours for several hours upon end then perhaps you remember that once the sky turned black, well, a deep shade of blue, the sun would leave little rays of itself firing through the high atmosphere to illuminate the smallest particles of water vapor clinging to each other so high above our own imaginations.

Noctilucence

n.-- shining at night, usually of very thin high altitude clouds observable in the summer twilight sky

Filicology

n-- the study of ferns

I think I'm tiring. I'll be heading into the woods next week for a couple weeks. When I return we may move on to something a little bit different. It should still be sexy but maybe it will have a slight change in tack. Bear with me, folks: existential crisis is about to be in full-swing.

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

The prime mover, the beginning, the very first singular cause of what it is
that we now seek to find again and follow so diligently
or not
but we cannot find what came before all was, when all
was nothing.

Primifluous

adj.-- that which flows first.

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

You know those moments when your breath catches and you feel all the blood rush to your head, a dizziness takes over then a flush, the heat comes from your chest outward, your feet tingle with a strangle sensation and your eyes go a bit wobbly? That moment happens when you see someone that seems to embody some type of heavenly beauty. It's clear that there is more than the aesthetic that's on the surface and you just know that under all those beautiful shades and sloping curves, her personality would make you swoon.

Isangelous

It's a long I, EYE, paired with a hissing S but it won't be enough ICE to cool this word down. Slithering into the short A then the N which makes your tongue rub, push against the roof of your mouth. The transition to the soft G can be difficult but is made easier if you stretch your lips forward as if puckering for a smooch then pull them right back into a sweet smile for the short E and move the tip of your tongue to the backs of your top-front teeth. That last syllable is key, isn't it? LUST without the pop of the T. Simply ending with that sensual S we all crave so much.

adj. -- equivalent to the angels.

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

I think that there are times when too much is never enough. Kisses. Wine. Leaves. Sunlight. Ocean. Mexican food. Oh, and Nakedness. It is never too soon to remove clothing.

Traboccant

A T is a tough way to start off a sexy word but if it's with the R it helps. You can roll that TUH! into the RRRRRrrrr nicely with a little practice. The short A is nice and short, hurried into that B where your lips come together softly then part with just a slight exhalation. Don't be too strong with the O. It's somewhere between a schwa and the OH! The Cs are hard and don't you forget it. Make them click near the back of your throat. It may help if you put a slightly desirous sneer on your face, like you want it but don't want to give too much away all at once. The ANT are an interesting set. Don't make it sound like an insect but it shouldn't be quite like your mother's sister either. If you make it through, make sure to put the breath behind the last T. Always finish strong, as if you enjoyed the journey.

adj. -- superabundant

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

Yes, pretty much everything does end. But why should that stop the dreamer? There's, at least, the present moment in which we can dwell and thrive with all our hopes riding on the next second to bring just as much joy. And we can find that glistening shine if we purpose our minds to see the beauty.

Inocciduous

adj. -- a never setting star

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

Is today truly reality? What about tomorrow? What if it's all just a dream? Have you ever dreamt about our Wednesday together on a Tuesday night? Things to come. Things to softly come to pass.

Essomenic

Short E into hissing Ss. There are two so pronounce them both. Not individually but as a pair that are linked, making a chain that will carry you to the long O. As your mouth rounds out that special sound of surprise move towards the gentle M so your lips come together in an expression of good, tasty, satisfying. Another short E passes quickly then onto the last ticking syllable. NIK! N and I sure but make sure that hard C clicks in the back of your mouth almost to your uvula but high-pitched enough to not be creepy.

adj. -- showing things as they will be in the future.

I'd like for you to show me what you will be in the future. Hopes and expectations. Black holes and revelations...

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

Senticous

Start with that sweet and soft S. Even the somewhat frightening hisssss of a serpent is slightly sensual. A short E like pen or hen or men. And the N which pushes your tongue up against the roof of your mouth for a moment before you transition to the T-uh!! of the T. Then the TIC sounds like the passage of another moment of your life as you draw nearer to the return from whence you came. The last syllable should be somewhere between the long U and the long O. Not US but not OOZE. As you finish, feel that final hiss. Oh, the symmetry of beginning and ending with that lovely essence of the S.

adj. -- prickly; thorny

Wednesday's Sexy Word of the Week

Veteratorian

I'd like to tell you how much I really do care. I do. My cynicism is just my way of detaching emotionally from most of the shit that happens in the world that we can't really deal with. I use irony and sarcasm to weave my intellect through all of the injustice that is dumped(intentionally or not) on so many of my fellow animals with whom I share this thin pie crust of a planet that we call Home.

adj.--subtle
